The state of marriage in the Western World is in shambles; we all agree. But widening the definition (can that honestly be done anyway?) is not the solution. The way back is to hold those who do marry closer to the actual definition that is not the product of religion or the state, but of nature, i.e., that it is life-long, monogamous, publicly espoused, faithful and based on love, open to life as concrete expressions of that love and fidelity, between one man and one woman.
Recently there was a court ruling that recognized that, and as Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco, chair of the U.S Bishops’ Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriagen noted, they actually said that much! It said that the reason could be found in “nature’s laws (that men and women complement each other biologically), that created the policy imperative.” Just thought I’d share the link – Seismic court ruling affirms link between marriage, kids!
